Päivä on ollut lämmin ja aurinkoinen, aamupäivän olen lojunut aurinkotuolissa lämmöstä ja puutarhan lintujen laulusta nauttien. Hotelli Quinta da Casa Brancan yksityinen puutarha on valtava, ja Madeiran kauneimpia.
Tutustuin yhteen puutarhureista, aina iloisesti hymyilevään Bernardeteen, joka tutustutti minut puutarhassa lenteleviin, isoihin burbuleta-perhosiin, joita kovasti ihailin. Aina kun kävelin puutarhassa, siellä oli puutarhureita ahertamassa, eipä siis ihme, että se näytti niin valtavan hyvin hoidetulta ja kukoistavalta.
Nyt on iltapäivä ja kuvaan tunnelmia hotelli Quinta da Casa Brancan päätalon piano loungessa. Muut hotellivieraat ovat altaalla, puutarhassa tai kuka missäkin, ja saan olla hetken ihan yksin.
Käydessäni ensimmäistä kertaa Madeiralla vuonna 2006, olin kuumeessa ja hotellihuoneemme oli jääkylmä. Kavereiden patikoidessa levadoilla, haaveilin sänkyni peiton alla lämmityksestä vilusta väristen. Taksimatkailu oli tuolloin vielä kohtalaisen halpaa, joten hyppäsin taksiin ja kiertelin Funchalin hotelleja aikomuksenani viettää edes yksi yö ilman vilua.
Yksi vierailukohteista oli hotelli Quinta da Casa Branca rehevän subtrooppisen puutarhan keskellä. Paikka teki minuun lähtemättömän vaikutuksen ja vaikka opiskelijan budjettini ei silloin mahdollistanut yöpymistä tuossa viiden tähden hotellissa, vannoin että vielä joskus lomailisin siellä.
The day has been warm and sunny. I have spent the morning lounging in the warmth of the garden and enjoying the sounds of the singing birds. Hotel Quinta da Casa Branca's private gardens are magnificent and of the most beautiful in Madeira.
I met one of the gardeners named Bernardete who was always smiling. He introduced me to the big Bubuleta-butterflies that flew about the gardens. They were beautiful. Every time I walked in the gardens there were gardeners busy working away. No wonder that the gardens flourished so beautifuly.
It is now afternoon and I will capture the ambiance of the Hotel Quinta da Casa Banca's main buildings' piano lounge. The other hotel visitors are out by the pool, in the gardens or wherever they are to be so I had a chance to enjoy the moment alone in the piano lounge.
On my first trip to Madeira in 2006, I became sick with a fever and shivered in a cold hotel room. While my frinds were out trecking on the levadas I dreamed of warmth, shivering underneath the blankets in bed. At the time traveling by taxi was reasonably cheap so I jumped into a taxi and went around to see the hotels of Funchal with the intention of finding a warm hotel where I could sleep without chills.
One of my encounters was Hotel Quinta da Casa Braca in the midst of lush subtropical gardens. The place made an unmistakable effect on me. Eventhough at the time my student budget would not allow me to stay here, I promised myself that I would one day return.

Päätalossa on kalustettu osin Leacockin perheen antiikkihuonekaluilla ja taideteoksilla.

Origionaly the hotel was a wine orchard then a banana planitation that belonged to the scotish, Leacock family since the 1800's. In the 1940's Edmund Erskine Leacock ordered a plan for a new Manor House from architect Leonardo de Carstor Friere. In 1947 construction work began.
In 1980 the estate was divided into two but the name Quinta da Casa Branca remained. In 1998 on the estates northside , architect Joao Favilva Menez designed the first hotel building which was then built. At the same time the vast gardens were renewed. In 2002 a new addition to the hotel designed by the same architect was opened.
Opposite the Modern boutique-hotel Quinta's buildings was the Manor House, the main building and Pool Villa that were freed from the private use of the hotel's owners, the Leacock family and were renovated into a luxouriouse hotel a few years ago. The main building is partly furnished with Leacock's antiques and art.
Sytytän valot piano loungen lukuisiin valaisimiin ja kattokruunuihin. Maderan sää voi muuttua hetkessä ja pian sade alkaa ropista kodikkaasti ikkunalautoihin. Talon mittasuhteet ovat valtavat, mutta silti siellä on viihtyisää ja kodikasta.
Päivälliseen talon ruokasalissa on vielä aikaa, joten päätän suoda itselleni rentouttavan kylvyn minulle tarjotun valtavan sviitin tassuammeessa. Kun taustalla pauhaa oopperamusiikki, meinaan nukahtaa kuumaan, tuoksuvaan kylpyyn valtavassa marmorikylpyhuoneessa.
En ole tottunut tällaiseen luksukseen ja ajatukset karkailevat välillä pieniin ahtaisiin huoneisiin kehitysmaissa, missä ahtaasti asuvat perheet voivat vain haaveilla kylvyistä.
Kun sitten valmistaudun illalliselle, on minulla hieman perhosia vatsassa, sillä illalliselle täytyy pukeutua vähän lomavaatetusta arvokkaammin. Yllättäen huomaan nauttivani valmistautumisesta, sillä se tuo juhlan tuntua ja mieleeni tulee joulu.
Koko talo on niin taianomainen ja tunnelma erityislaatuinen, että olo on kuin joulupäivälliselle valmistautuvalla kartanonrouvalla skotlantilaisessa linnassa. Huomaan hyräileväni joululaulua.
Ruokasali on jopa uskomattomampi kuin osasin odottaa. Sisustus on elegantti ja lukuisat kynttilät luovat lämpimän, juhlavan ja jouluisen tunnelman. Hämärtyvässä illassa, ikkunan takana näkyvät banaanipuut saavat minut taas muistamaan olevani Madeiralla, subtrooppisen puutarhan keskellä.
Henkilökunta on äärimmäisen ystävällistä, ruoka taidolla valmistettua ja annokset kauniita.
Aterian jälkeen on ihana nukahtaa jättisuureen prinsessansänkyyni valtavassa makuuhuoneessa.
I turn the lights on to the numerouse lamps and chandaliers. The weather in Madeira can change in the matter of minutes and soon the rain pitter patters on the windowsills. The house is huge but still it feels inviting and cosy.
There is still time before dinner in the dining room, so I decide to go for a relaxing bath in the huge suite's lionpaw bathtub. In the backgound I hear opera music and am about to fall asleep enjoying the sensations of the bath in the massive marble bathroom.
I am not used to this luxuriousness so my thoughts fly to the small stuffy accomodation rooms of the developing countries where families could only imagine of such bathing.
When the time comes for dinner, it gives me the butterflies. For dinner one must dress more formal compared to the usual vacation habit. Surprisingly I notice how much I enjoy it and how it brings a feeling of celebration and reminds me of Christmas.
The whole house is so magical and the atmosphere is so special that I feel like a Chatelaine in a Scotish palace. I notice myself humming Christmas songs.
The dining room is even more amazing than I expected. The interior is elegant with numerous candals luminating and bringing a warm festive feeling. In the dimming light of the evening I see the banana trees through the window and remember that I am in Madeira in the midst of the subtropical gardens.
The staff is extremely friendly, the food is prepared with great skill and the portions are beautiful. After my meal it is nice to fall asleep in my huge princess bed in a huge suite.
This is my second visit to the hotel chain Small Luxury Hotels of the World- indipendant hotels. Here one feels truly like at home eventhough traveling. I can warmly recommend!

Harakka raahaa pesäänsä kaikkea kiiltävää. Minä en niinkään kiiltävästä piittaa, mutta kaikki kaunis raahautuu kotiini, jollei konkreettisesti, niin valokuvien muodossa. Katselen maailmaa mieluummin sammakkoperspektiivistä kuin linnun silmin, - varpaat mullassa. Inspiroidun väreistä, muodoista ja hyvästä valon väristä. Elämässä parasta on tämä hetki ja arjen kauniit asiat, kuten se, kuinka teelehdet liuekenevat veteen lasisessa teekannussa ja se, miten jasmiiniteen tuoksu saa mielen kohoamaan arjen yläpuolelle. Kaikista kaunein maallinen asia minulle on kuitenkin luotettavan ystävän sydän, joka on puhdasta kultaa vikoineen kaikkineen.
